Dal Dhokali


Dal Dhokli is a traditional recipe cooked in lentils or dal. This easy to make recipe can be eaten as is or served with rice.



Ingredients :
— Toor dal - 1cup
— Channa dal - 1tbsp
— Moong dal - 1tbsp
— Peanuts - handful
— Chopped tomatoes - 1cup
— Chopped corriander
— Wheat flour / Atta - 1cup
— Turmeric powder
— Salt
— Oil
— Chilli powder
— Corriander powder
— Garam masala powder
— Ginger garlic paste - 1tsp
— Jaggery - small piece
— Ajwain seeds - 1tsp
— Jeera seeds - 1tsp
— Mustard seeds - 1tsp
— Red dry chillies - 2-3
— Curry leaves 
— Hing / asafoetida 


Recipe :

1. Pressure cook dal and peanuts together and mash the dal.

2. Make soft chapati dough by mixing Atta with salt, turmeric,ajwain, chilli powder and little oil.

Let the dough rest. 

3. In a pan heat oil and add jeera, mustard seeds and curry leaves. 

4. Now add dry red chillies, hing and ginger garlic paste.

5. Add chopped tomatoes now and mix.


6. Cook till tomatoes become mushy.

7. Add cooked dal and mix.

8. Add 2cups of water and adjust the consistency.
** When cooled it becomes hard, so can add more or adjust later.

9. Now add turmeric, salt, corriander powder, garam masala, jaggery and chilli powder. Adjust the spices.

10. Let this slowly boil.

11. Roll the chapathi dough to 1inch thick.

12. Cut into desirable shapes and pull pieces apart.

13. Add these pieces to the boiling dal and mix very carefully.
** Dont over mix and break the dhoklis.

14. Add corriander and let the dal dhokli boil nicely till all flavors are absorbed.

15. Hot and tasty Dal dhokli is ready now.
