Anapakai Paalu or Bottle gourd cooked in milk curry

 


 


Bottle gourd is regarded as one of the healthiest vegetable. Also called as Lauki  or Anapakai or Sorrakai. It is well known for its wonderful nature of cooling down the body heat and also helps in weight loss.

This simple curry is cooked in milk and has a wonderful taste.


Ingredients :

- Bottle gourd / Anapakai chunks - 1 cup-

 Milk - 1/2 cup

- Jeera - 1/2 tsp

- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp

- Urad dal - 1/2 tsp

- Oil - 1 tbsp

- Dry Red chillies - 3-4

- Curry leaves - 5-6

- Turmeric - 1/2 tsp

- Salt - as required


Recipe :

1. Heat a pan with oil and add the jeera, mustard seeds, urad dal. When the seeds splutter add dry red chillies and curry leaves.

You can add crushed garlic too.


2. Add the bottle gourd pieces and salt. Let this fry .


3. When the pieces turn half soft add turmeric and milk. 


4. Close the lid and let this cook along with the milk.


5. The vegetable pieces must turn completely soft and milk should curdle. Check for the spices and adjust the consistency with more milk if needed.


Tasty and nutrients rich curry is all ready to be enjoyed with hot rice or rotis.

This is a simple flavor rice, with no onion , no garlic..
