Andhra Style ~ Moong dal Paatoli



Patoli is a simple dish cooked with grounded moong dal. This can either be eaten as a curry along with rice topped with ghee or can be eaten as like a snack.
This should be grainy and dry.



Ingredients :

- Moong Dal - 1 cup
- Onions - 2 medium 
- Green Chillies - 5-6
- Curry Leaves - 7-8
- Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
- Jeera - 1 tsp
- Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
- Urad dal - 1 tsp
- Channa Dal - 1 tsp
- Oil 4 -5 tbsps
- Dry Red chillies - 3-4
- Hing - 1 tsp
- Salt - as per your taste


Recipe :

1. Clean and soak the moong dal for an hour. Then drain the water completely and make a coarse paste without using any water.

2. Heat 3 tbps Oil in a pan / kadai, then add the tempering seeds - jeera, mustard, channa dal and urad dal. When seeds splutter add dry red chillies and hing. Fry well.


3. Add chopped green chillies, curry leaves and chopped onions. The onions have to fry till translucent and then add ginger garlic paste & salt.

4. Fry till the onions turn brown and there is no raw smell.


5. Add the moong dal paste and mix well. This has to slowly cook on medium flame with closed lid.
Keep checking in between.

6. The paste has to fry well and crispy parts should be visible. The crispy parts indicate that it is well cooked. 


7. Check for the spices and add 1 more tbsp of oil and cook for 10 mins till it becomes all grainy.


Relish with ghee and rice or enjoy as is like a snack.
