Sesame spiced Raddish curry / Mullangi ~ Nuvvula podi kura


Raddish is known to hold its sharp flavor. It is used widely in various salads to our very regular sambar.. This sesame spiced radish is a great combo to try on...




Ingredients :
Raddish - 1 cup (Finely chopped) 
— Onions - 1 ½ cups (Finely chopped)
— Green chillies - 1-2
— Sesame seeda / Nuvvulu - 3 tbsps 
— Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 Spoon
— Salt 
— Chilli powder
— Jeera powder
— Turmeric
— Tamrind - a small ball
— Dry red chillies - 3-4
— Oil - 1 ½ tbsps 

For Tempering :
— Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
— Channa dal - 1/2 tsp
— Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
— Jeera - 1/2 tsp
— Curry leaves 
— Dry red chillies - 1-2

Recipe :

Pre - Process 

1. Pressure cook finely chopped radish pieces, pinch of salt, pinch of turmeric and small ball of tamarind for 2 whistles. 
Strain the water and keep aside. 
** This water can be consumed too. 
2.  Dry roast sesame / nuvvulu and 2-3 dry red chillies. Make sure it is not burnt.
Coarsely blend this only after it is cooled. 
** Blending when seeds are hot will not result in powder instead will become paste. 
Process :

1. Heat oil in a pan, add tempering ingredients and let them fry.
2. Add finely chopped onions and green chillies. Let the onions fry for 5 mins, it should not turn brown. 
3. Add ginger garlic paste and let this fry till the raw smell wades off.
4. Add the boiled radish pieces without water and tamarind pieces. Also add salt and mix properly. 
5. Now close the lid and cook for 5mins. 
6. Now you can add the Sesame spice powder, jeera powder, chilli powder and mix.
7. Close the lid and cook again for 5mins. You can adjust spices too. Cook till you see little oil oozing out and nice aroma comes.

8. Serve hot with rice and ghee or rotis.
