Dry red chillies dal - Spicy dal


Dals are the major part of the Indian food. Many types of dishes are made in various regions. One among them is the Spicy dry red chillies dal.





Ingredients 


- 10-12 dry red chillies
- 1 cup Toor dal /Pigeon pea dal
- 1tbsp Channa dal
- 1tbsp Moong dal
- lemon size tamrind ball
- Salt
- Jeera,Dhaniya powder
- Ghee
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 1 cup chopped tomatoes
- corriander
- Oil
- Water
- 1tsp Mustard seeds
- 1tsp Jeera seeds
- 1tsp Channa dal
- 1tsp Urad dal
- 1tsp hing
- 4-5 curry leaves
- 1tsp chopped ginger
- 1tsp chopped garlic

Recipe

1. In a pressure cooker, add dry red chillies, toor dal, channa dal, moong dal and tamrind. Add enough water and cook for 4-5 whistles.


2. Mash the dal completely in such a way that all the red chillies also gets mashed.



3. In a pan, add 2tbsps ghee and 1 tbsp oil. After the oil is heated, add mustard seeds, jeera seeds, channa dal, urad dal.

4. Once this starts popping up, add hing / asafoetida to this. Now add curry leaves, chopped ginger and garlic.

5. Now add chopped onions. Fry this till they become translucent. 

6. After the onions are fried, add tomatoes and let them fry till they become mushy. 

7.  Now add the cooked dal to this onion tomato mix. 

8. Add salt, turmeric and jeera dhaniya powder and mix properly. 

9. Add chopped corriander and mix. You can adjust the consistency with water. 

10. Hot and spicy dry chillies dal is now ready. Serve with streamed rice or rotis.
